Guilty Plea in Deadly Rochester DUI Wreck

A Rochester man who was drunk when he caused a fatal  traffic wreck in the city last month

pleaded guilty today.  Police say 57 year old Gerald Mohs had a blood/alcohol level of .17 at the time of the head-on wreck that claimed the life of  9 year old William Siems of Plainview.  The boy was a passenger in a car that was driven by his aunt, 29 year old Amber Bishop of Stewartville.  Bishop and her 7 year old son were injured in the wreck, which happened the night of September 20th in the 1400 block of 12th street southeast, near the Cub Foods store.

Mohs - who had been driving in the wrong lane - walked away and was spotted by a police officer about 2 hours later across town near the Shopko North store.  Police say Mohs admitted he had been drinking all day.  He had been without a drivers license since 1979.

He pleaded guilty to four counts of criminal vehicular homicide under what’s known as a Norgaard plea.  That means he was too drunk to remember what happened but admits there is enough evidence for a conviction.
