Great News! Your Box Of Mac & Cheese Contains Harmful Chemicals
Today, if you didn’t know, is National Mac & Cheese Day. It seems like they have a holiday for just about every food these days, but this one really hits home for me. Ever since I’ve been on my own, I think I’ve probably downed a box of Mac & Cheese at least once a week, if not more. It’s easy to make, it tastes great, it really tastes good on pizza, and it’s one of the best comfort foods out there.
It also might be destroying your health. HAPPY NATIONAL MAC & CHEESE DAY EVERYONE! You probably don’t want to read this next part.
According to a recent study, 29 out of 30 samples of Mac & Cheese were found to contain harmful chemicals known as phthalates, a word that's impossible to pronounce without sounding like you're 6 beers deep. These chemicals mostly found in the cheese powder found in most boxes. Phthalates are known to disrupt male testosterone (uh-oh), cause behavior and learning problems, and may be linked to genital birth defects. It’s said to be most dangerous for children.
The worst part? These chemicals are pretty much found in every mac & cheese brand. So that’s not good.
Will any of this stop me from eating Mac & Cheese – most likely tonight? NOPE! It’s too late for me. I’m addicted. Fewer things in life bring me more pleasure than licking a spoon coated with gooey cheese dust after mixing the powder into a pot of buttery noodles. So that’s probably never going to stop happening.
Oh well! Just wanted to pass this horrible info along to you.
***Bonus Mac & Cheese Pro Tip***: Always go with the shells, preferably white cheddar. Those shells really pack that cheese in good. Sprinkle in some parmesan for flavor.
