Northfield, MN (KROC-AM News) - A truck driver from Goodhue was one of the two victims of a traffic crash today in Rice County.

The State Patrol says 59-year-old Richard Banidt was driving a semi tanker truck west on Highway 19 when he collided with an eastbound car driven by 28-year-old Bobak Barjasteh of Northfield. Both men died in the collision, which was reported around 7:30 a.m.

The State Patrol says a third vehicle was hit by debris from the collision but the two occupants were not hurt.

The deadly head-on collision occurred a couple of miles east of the I-35 interchange and forced the closure of Highway 19 between Northfield and the freeway for several hours.

The crash site is only a little over 10 miles north of the location of a fatal crash that occurred yesterday in Faribault. A 22-year-old Burnsville man died when the truck he was in entered the median on I-35 and rolled.
