If you're packing up the kids and heading up north this holiday weekend, you'll find some good news at the gas pumps here in Minnesota.

We sometimes think our gas prices are high here, but I was reading this ABC-7 story from San Francisco last night that said as of yesterday, California now has the highest gasoline tax in the country. Drivers there in the Golden State pay a whopping 79.42 cents per gallon in taxes. (For comparison, we pay taxes of 28.6-cents per gallon here in Minnesota.)

Hoo boy! While I love to head to California on vacation and head up the Pacific Coast Highway, I'm glad I'm not paying that much every time I fill up. And, if you're heading up to the lake or cabin this 4th of July holiday weekend, you won't be paying nearly that much here in the Land of 10,000 Lakes, either.

According to this GasBuddy.com survey, we're paying anywhere from $2.38 to $2.64 a gallon for a gallon of unleaded gasoline (as of Tuesday) morning here in Rochester. Which is WAAAY cheaper than they're paying in California, where unleaded is running, on average, about $3.85 a gallon.

And, it's way cheaper than we were paying a year ago in Minnesota at this time too. According to the U.S. Energy Information Administration, last July 1st, gas prices in the Bold North were at an average price of $2.75 a gallon, while this year, the state average puts that price at a mere $2.54 a gallon-- a full 21-cents cheaper.

So, wherever you're heading this 4th of July, enjoy that cheap gas! And take us along with the new, free Quick Country 96.5 app, so we'll keep that non-stop new country streaming all weekend long!
