While the big snow storm forecasters were talking about earlier this week looks like it won't be heading our way, there is some bitter cold set to head into the Land of 10,000 Lakes just in time for Christmas.

The low pressure system that's set to hit southeast Minnesota on Thursday looks like it'll still drop some snow on us-- enough to give us a white Christmas, but barely-- even though it won't be as much as was initially forecast.

The latest update from the National Weather Service runs it down like this:

Periods of light snow and possibly freezing drizzle will begin Thursday morning and continue into Friday. At this time, 1 to locally 4 inches of snow is forecast for southeast Minnesota, along with a glaze of ice across northeast Iowa into southwestern Wisconsin.

So there's that. But after the snow, bitter cold air will drop down from Canada this weekend, just in time for Christmas, according the weekend forecast:

Highs Saturday will be in the teens to lower 20s, but will tumble into the single digits below and above zero by Christmas Day and into Tuesday. Watch for bitter cold wind chills, generally in the -10 to -25 range Monday and Tuesday morning.
