Surveillance camera filmed a Florida man saving his dog from the jaws of an alligator that grabbed ahold of a puppy, but he never lost his cigar.

74-year-old Richard Willbanks was sitting in the sun and enjoying a cigar when he heard the sound of his new puppy, 3-month-old Gunner, crying in pain and fear. An alligator in the backyard pond had grabbed Gunner and pulled him into the water.

Richard sprung into action, jumping into the pond and grabbing the alligator and pulling the jaws open. He saved the Cavalier King Charles spaniel, who only had a small puncture. The entire incident was captured on surveillance video.

Then, Richard just had to pull his own hands from the gator's mouth, pulling the jaws apart enough to get his hands out, still not dropping the cigar from his mouth.

“Instinct just took over and adrenaline kicked in and I just went right into the water after the gator and Gunner," he told WBBH.
