Minneapolis, MN (KROC-AM News) - Minneapolis Police have released the name of the man who is accused of killing another motorist while fleeing law officers Wednesday evening.

27-year-old Trevon McMorris is currently being held in the Hennepin County jail on suspicion of murder. He was arrested after the vehicle he was driving collided with another vehicle at a high rate of speed in a crash that resulted in the death of the other motorist. That person’s name has not been released.

The deadly crash occurred moments after Minneapolis Police responded to a report of suspicious vehicles and possible drug activity in a North Minneapolis neighborhood. When officers arrived at the scene shortly before 6:30 PM they made contact with the drivers of both vehicles and one of them responded by swerving around the second vehicle and accelerating at the officer.

A statement issued by the Minneapolis Police Department says the officer was able to avoid being hit by the vehicle and ran back to his squad car to chase the suspect vehicle, which was last seen leaving the area at a high rate of speed. Officials say the officer headed in the same direction as the suspect and soon after came upon the fatal crash at a nearby intersection. A preliminary investigation determined the deceased motorist was driving through the intersection when his vehicle was hit by the suspect vehicle allegedly driven by McMorris.
