Fleck Signs Extension With Gophers, Boat Stays In Minnesota 7 More Years
Rows-Bowl? Not so fast, the Gophers have to beat their toughest opponent of the season Saturday, as #5 ranked Penn State comes to TCF Bank Stadium for an 11 AM kickoff. One of the topics coming into this game was what might happen to the Gophers Head Coach PJ Fleck. Would he be woo'd away by big money? USC, Florida State? Rest assured Gopher fans, the oars and Fleck are staying in Minnesota another 7 years.
During the PJ Fleck Gopher Coaches show this afternoon, host Mike Grimm asked PJ about a possible contract extension, which he stated was in the works and might be done soon. Well, as soon as the show ended at 1pm, it seemed like Fleck signed on the dotted line.
The University of Minnesota was the first to announce the extension. According to the release the "new seven-year contract extension, pending approval from the Board of Regents."
Coach Fleck is currently in his third year at Minnesota and has the Gophers ranked No. 13 after an 8-0 start and a 5-0 mark in the Big Ten.
There was no financial information available in the release stating what the extension is worth, but one would have to think that it would be comparable to Jeff Brohm of Purdue. Which according to an April USA Today article is seven-years worth $36.8 million with a $1.7 signing bonus.
PJ will be rowing the boat or swimming in a sea of cash like Scrooge McDuck.
