Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - One of the first shipments of the Pfizer BioNtech COVID-19 vaccine to be sent to Minnesota arrived this morning at the Olmsted Medical Center.

OMC reported the FedEx shipment containing approximately 975 doses was delivered to its Pharmacy Department just before 7 AM. A news release indicates the first three shipments of the vaccine to Minnesota were sent to Olmsted Medical Center, North Memorial, and Sanford Health-Bemidji. It also says additional shipments are expected to arrive in Rochester and other locations statewide tomorrow.

OMC will follow the guidance provided by the Minnesota Department of Health concerning the distribution of the vaccine. The priority list of those first in line to be inoculated includes healthcare personnel facing the highest risk of exposure by treating COVID patients.

The vaccine received final emergency use authorization from the Food and Drug Administration over the weekend and Pfizer began shipping the doses and special deep freeze containers on Sunday.
