Abandoned Cold War Base For Sale On The Top Of Minnesota
On one of Minnesota's highest points, there is an abandoned radar station that was built during the Cold War. Now you can own this ghost town for under a million dollars. Any takers?
5282 Morning Star Loop on top of Lookout Mountain near Finland, Minnesota, is the site of the former Air Force base. The base was used by the Air Force for the radar surveillance network. It was built after the start of the Korean War in 1950. 27 other radar sites were built in the United States as part of the program.
The role of the Air Force base radars was to guide interceptor aircraft towards unidentified intruders. A fighter squadron in Duluth, Minnesota, would likely be the first aircraft to respond to a threat found by the Finland station.
The base was used until 1989, and for a time after, it was still used as single-family homes. Now it is abandoned and for sale for $800,000 in Finland with 100 acres of commercial land.

Several YouTubers have visited the ghost town and have called it apocalyptic and creepy. It does look like something from Fallout or The Last of Us, or even The Walking Dead. Tall grass and vegetation grow through cracks in the concrete. It would be a great place for filming an episode of one of these shows, just the way it is.
Future opportunities could be building a campground here. It's just miles north of Finland, Minnesota, and on Minnesota's beautiful North Shore.

Earlier this year, TheTravel.com featured the site as a ghost town you can own that has toxic issues. In their article, they highlight the contamination left from the military base. There's nothing mentioned in the listing about contamination.
The property has 43 abandoned homes and 25 garage spaces. There are concrete pads, a shared well system, and a shared sewer system.
