St. Paul, MN (KROC-AM News) - The number of Minnesotans hospitalized because of COVID-19 has dropped below 400 for the first time in about four months.

The latest numbers from the State Health Department indicate around 390 people are currently hospitalized in Minnesota due to the new viral illness. It marks the first time that number has been under 400 since October 5th. 84 of the patients are being treated in intensive care units. That is the lowest number of Minnesota ICU beds in use by COVID-19 patients since September 19th.

The Minnesota Department of Health today reported 8 coronavirus related deaths statewide. Only 633 new COVID-19 cases were reported with 26 of the new infections found in Olmsted County. The testing total from Monday was just over 9100 and the daily testing positivity rate was about 6.9 percent.

The latest COVID-19 vaccination report had nearly 450,000 Minnesotans counted as receiving at least one dose of the vaccine. That number is getting close to surpassing the total number of known COVID-19 infections, which currently stands at just over 463,000 since the start of the pandemic.
