I love this country. America is the GREATEST country in the world. The freedoms we enjoy are too numerous to mention (Thanks to our Armed Forces, past and present) but I just have to ask: Where did this new love for soccer (futbol) come from?I've been on Facebook since...oh....2008 or so and I can honestly say that I have NEVER seen so many posts about American soccer from my friends. So, why the new found love for the game? I mean, I'm all about America winning something. If it comes to America playing, say, Russia for the Cricket Championship, I'm saying USA! USA! USA! all day long. But, I'm not going to post it for all to see on my Facebook page or buy the shirts/shorts/shoes etc. because, frankly, I don't care for cricket....nor do I care for soccer. And neither do my friends....or so I thought. Now, every other post I read on my Facebook page is about soccer. They're wearing soccer t-shirts, giving score updates, saying things like "GO AMERICA! One Down" (after USA's win over Ghana)and "WOW!!! That game was a nail biter!!"

I guess my questions are:

  • Why the love for soccer, all of a sudden?
  • Is it ONLY because America is playing or are these people TRUE soccer fans?
  • Am i being Un-American by NOT posting anything about it or NOT watching it?

Again, don't get me wrong....I'm all for America winning...whatever they happen to be playing in...but I'm certainly not going to fake like I like soccer (or cricket, or figure skating, or curling...I could go on and on) Me? I'm a football fan. American football. Bring on fall. Now THAT'S...America!

USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA!
