Death of Rochester Newborn Under Investigation
Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - The Rochester Police Dept is investigating the death of a newborn.
Police Lt. Mike Sadauskis says a 17-year-old and her 19-year-old boyfriend showed up at the St Marys Hospital ER late Tuesday night to report the death. The teenager told ER staff the baby girl was stillborn. She said she had given birth at her grandparents’ home around 10:00 AM.
Police were notified and investigators interviewed the teenager, who said she had “panicked” after discovering the baby was dead. She said she slept most of the day before deciding to go to the ER.
Sadauskis says the baby was near full-term and there were no signs of trauma to the body. He says an autopsy was scheduled and preliminary results may be known Thursday.
