Rochester, MN  (KROC AM News) -  The Olmsted County Board was told Tuesday local health officials are a bit concerned about recent COVID-19 activity in the Rochester area.

The board was given an update on the current situation by Olmsted County Public Health Director Graham Briggs.

Briggs told the board the number of positive cases has been increasing. As of Monday, the county’s total of confirmed positive cases had grown to 1147.

But Briggs also told the board he suspects the number of county residents who have been exposed to the virus is pretty low, possibly less than 5-percent. Briggs says it appears about 12-percent of local cases have been asymptomatic.

He also says Olmsted County’s number of hospitalizations remains low and the local health care system has avoided being strained so far.

He also said he strongly supports the Rochester mask requirement that takes effect Wednesday.
