Rochester, MN  (KROC-AM News) - The Mayo Clinic has announced an almost complete ban on hospital visitors due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Effective Sunday, no visitors will be allowed in the Mayo Clinic hospitals in Rochester. The restriction covers both the hospital setting and the emergency department. The only exceptions that will be considered are for childbirth, end-of-life care, hospitalized children and other rare or unique circumstances.

A statement from the Mayo Clinic says the visitor policy change is aimed at protecting patients and staff from exposure to the coronavirus. Beginning Monday, outpatient clinic patients will only be allowed to be accompanied by one person, except under special circumstances that would be decided by the patient's health care team.
