Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - The Rochester Police Department is making a communitywide notification concerning the release of a predatory sex offender from the Minnesota Sex Offender Program.

45-year-old Benjamin Alverson has been provisionally discharged from his civil commitment and is transitioning to a halfway house that is located on the Olmsted County Campus on the east edge of Rochester. He was convicted of felony criminal sexual conduct charges in the late 1990s involving sexual contact with two teenage girls. In 2005 he was committed to the St. Peter State Security Hospital as a sexually dangerous person and is now categorized as a risk level 1 predatory offender.

The Rochester Police Department will hold a virtual community notification and education meeting next Tuesday afternoon. Representatives from the Minnesota Sex Offender Program and the Department of Corrections will be presenting information during the session.
