Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - Rochester police have made two arrests in connection with an assault early today that left a man with a potentially serious brain injury.

Rochester Police Capt. John Sherwin says officers responded to reports of an assault on the sidewalk area in front of Dooley’s restaurant in downtown Rochester around 3 AM and found the 27-year-old victim unconscious and unresponsive. The man had been beaten and then stomped on after he fell to the ground. His wallet had also been stolen by one of his attackers.

He was transported to St. Mary’s hospital to be treated for possible bleeding in his brain and other injuries. Capt. Sherwin says the man did eventually regain consciousness and spoke with officers, who also spoke with witnesses at the scene and reviewed security camera video that helped identify a vehicle used by the suspects.

It was located this morning in the 3100 block of Oxford Lane Northwest and the two occupants were arrested on first-degree aggravated robbery and first-degree assault charges. One of the suspects is a 16-year-old male, while the other was identified as 23-year-old Najib Ahmed of Rochester.

Capt. Sherwin says the incident remains under investigation and additional arrests are possible.
