Governor Mark Dayton will announce his replacement for Al Franken's Senate seat on Wednesday morning.

Dayton is scheduled to announce his pick Wednesday morning at 10 a.m. at the State Capital.

Dayton's pick will serve through next year's election, when the voters of Minnesota will pick a candidate to finish Franken's current term, which ends in 2020. Franken announced his resignation last week after there was a growing cloud of sexual misconduct allegations. Franken did not set a date for his official resignation.

Speculation says that Dayton's preferred choice is Lt. Gov. Tina Smith, as a Democratic official familiar with the discussion on the appointment told reporters last week.
