The Bloomington Bomb Squad visited Rochester on Friday and left with a box full of old hand grenades.

Rochester Police contacted the explosive disposal experts after a work crew for a property management company discovered the grenades stored in a closet while they were painting a vacant unit at the Essex Place apartment complex along 41st street northwest Friday afternoon.

The bomb squad determined the 19 grenades were either inert or were "dummy" devices used for training and did not pose a threat to the public.

Officials note it is not illegal to possess non-explosive grenades and authorities are working to contact the previous tenant of the apartment.
