Bill Hader Hitman Comedy ‘Barry’ Eyes 2018 HBO Premiere, Spring Shoot
Boy, it sure seems like a great deal of the most anticipated TV shows are all making us wait until 2018. Either way, SNL and Trainwreck star Bill Hader is finally headlining his own series on HBO (and a hitman comedy at that), and Barry is suiting up for production this spring. Don’t expect to see it until 2018, though.
Per HBO, Barry will begin eight-episode production this spring with an eye to debut at some point in 2018. Hader co-creates, produces and writes with Silicon Valley producer Alec Berg, while the synopsis appears to have been updated somewhat from that of an ex-Marine turned struggling Midwest hitman:
Hader stars in the title role as a hitman who, after following his intended target to an acting class, finds himself intrigued and decides to become an actor and change his life. As well as starring in the series, Hader will direct episodes of the show, marking his directorial debut.
Additional stars will include comedy icon Henry Winkler, Boardwalk Empire alum Stephen Root and Glenn Flesher, as well as Sarah Goldberg and Anthony Carrigan. The project also stems from an HBO development deal with Hader going back to 2014.
It’s still a long time to wait, but does Barry sound like a suitable next step for Hader?
