Got $850K and No Sense of Fear? Buy the Amityville Horror House!
Good news, horror aficionados: The Amityville Horror House is officially back on the market! For only $850,000, you can own and sleep in a beautifully renovated, five bedroom, three-and-a-half bath "stately" Colonial-style home where a grisly murder spree once took place. Dream home, amirite?
Situated on the Amityville River in the town of Amityville, New York, the infamous house — often cited as one of the most iconic haunted houses in the world — was the site where Ronald DeFeo brutally massacred his family in 1974. Years later, the building would be subject to another frightening incident when, after moving in, the Lutz family began to claim that their new home was haunted and that they were experiencing demonic episodes.
The investigation that followed — in which famous paranormal researchers Ed and Lorraine Warren were employed — became a media frenzy, launching the already nefarious location further into the public spotlight. These events would, of course, inspire Jay Anson's novel, The Amityville Horror, as well as the 1979 film of the same title. In 2005, following a string of sequels and documentaries through the years, Michael Bay produced a remake starring Ryan Reynolds and just this year, the alleged haunting was revisited once more in the opening scene of James Wan's The Conjuring 2, in which the Warrens are the main characters.
If you don't believe in ghosts and demons, however, the house can really be yours — just check out its charming and reasonably-priced listing on Zillow!
Featuring a boat house, hardwood flooring, newly finished basement, a heated sun room, and detached parking garage — as well as, possibly, a few demonic roommates — can you think of a single better Long Island vacation home?
If your answer is yes, literally any other house, then we're right there with you.
