Just as we were starting to welcome back temperatures into the 50s, plan for a polar plunge towards the end of the week as a storm system begins to move into the state Tuesday, and it will stick around through Friday at least according to predictions from the National Weather Service in the Twin Cities.

The storm has been labeled as being 'powerful' and having multiple weather-related hazards possibly stemming from this weather system.

Tuesday there is a risk for severe weather. The greatest threat of severe weather runs from I-90 south, while other portions of the lower third of the state have a chance at seeing some potentially severe weather, the chances are less than the area in yellow below.

Wednesday's weather seems like it will affect areas East of I-35 as a cold front will slide through creating the likelihood of strong storms.

Thursday, as the low-pressure system moves through, the wind will be a BIG factor as wind speeds of 40-50 mph are expected from Southern Minnesota up through Central Minnesota, with the greatest likelihood of high winds concentrating on West-Central Minnesota according to this model from the National Weather Service in the Twin Cities.

On top of the wind that is expected, snow is also in the forecast Wednesday night into Thursday. The highest chances for snow will be in Northern Minnesota with portions of Central Minnesota seeing some flakes. Right now, Southern Minnesota doesn't look like we will see much snow, but we can still see some flakes falling.

Granted A LOT of this forecast is still far enough out things can change, multiple websites that give forecasts show a big temperature drop towards the end of the week with temps going from the 50s for highs down to the 30s.

If you've got Holy Week travel plans you may want to double-check the forecast before heading out later in the week, and after Monday the chance for Spring sports seems unlikely, at least from what we are seeing forecasted for our area, Faribault-Owatonna, for the next few days.
