Over 8,000,000 Pounds of Contaminated Chicken Recalled Following Death
Over 8 Million pounds of chicken recalled by Tyson Foods because it may be "adulterated" with Listeria monocytogenes. Three people have become sick, at least one of those died after eating the Tyson chicken and becoming sick with Listeriosis.
A big concern is that the chicken products are already in your fridge or freezer. here in Minnesota, and all over the nation (no telling where someone's reading this, right?). Please scroll down to see the exact products being recalled and remove them from your home. Either throw them out or return them to the store for a refund.
What Is Listeria Monocytogenes?
According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS),
"Listeriosis can cause fever, muscle aches, headache, stiff neck, confusion, loss of balance and convulsions sometimes preceded by diarrhea or other gastrointestinal symptoms. An invasive infection spreads beyond the gastrointestinal tract.
"In pregnant women, the infection can cause miscarriages, stillbirths, premature delivery or life-threatening infection of the newborn.
"In addition, serious and sometimes fatal infections in older adults and persons with weakened immune systems.
"Listeriosis is treated with antibiotics.
"Persons in the higher-risk categories who experience flu-like symptoms within two months after eating contaminated food should seek medical care and tell the health care provider about eating the contaminated food."
Tyson Chicken Product Recall Specifics
- FSIS was notified about the problem June 9, 2021, with at least one fatality.
- About 8,492,832 pounds of ready-to-eat (RTE) chicken products are being recalled.
- The frozen, fully cooked chicken products were produced between December 26, 2020 and April 13, 2021. The products subject to recall are listed here (click to open or download .pdf) and here's 10 of the MANY MANY labels.

The products subject to recall bear establishment number “EST. P-7089” on the product bag or inside the USDA mark of inspection. These items were shipped nationwide to retailers and institutions, including hospitals, nursing facilities, restaurants, schools and Department of Defense locations.
