First, we'll start with Edina's Southdale Shopping Mall opening in 1956. That picture above is from the day they opened. it's important to Minnesota's history, the US history of pop culture, and the history of malls because it's was the first modern mall in the USA!
Thanks, Shorpy, for letting us use the photo. Fun fact, the architect who designed the mall, Victor Gruen, is said to have regretted the entire project because he felt malls ruined cities.
