Buffalo, MN (KROC-AM News) - The police chief in Buffalo Minnesota says investigators do not have any information that indicates domestic terrorism was involved in today's mass shooting.

Chief Pat Budke, who spoke at an afternoon news conference, says five people were shot and wounded at an Allina Health Clinic in the central Minnesota city this morning. He says officers responded to the clinic after receiving reports of a shooting just before 11 AM and found the victims along with the suspect, who has been identified as 67-year-old Gregory Ulrich.

Chief Budke, who appeared to be a bit stunned by the day’s events state, “This is a day no community would want to have to go through.”

Ulrich was taken into custody and the five shooting victims were transported to North Memorial Medical Center and the Hennepin County Medical Center for treatment. Information about the extent of their injuries is not yet available.

Wright County Sheriff Sean Derringer says his deputies also responded to the clinic and he says, after the suspect in the victims had been removed, a suspicious package was discovered in the lobby of the building. A bomb squad from the Twin Cities was dispatched to the site, and at last report, was at the scene dealing with the item. Sheriff Derringer says officers were then sent to the motel in Buffalo where Ulrich had been living and discovered additional suspicious devices, which prompted the evacuation of the motel.

Chief Budke and Sheriff Derringer say Ulrich has had a lengthy history of contact with law enforcement that dates back to 2003. They also indicated that he was known to harbor animosity toward the Allina Health System but there had not been any indications he would do something like this.

Both officials declined to release any other information concerning the investigation, which they described as being in the early stages.
