St. Paul, MN (KROC-AM News) - The 2017 shipping season on the Upper Mississippi River officially ended overnight when the River Tow Bernard G, pushing 11 barges filled with corn and soybeans, passed through Lock and Dam 10 at Guttenberg, Iowa.

The end of the season occurred two days earlier than last year even though Lock and Dam 10 won’t officially close for the winter until December 10th. The shipping season officially opened this year on March 9th when the river tow Stephen L. Colby arrived in St. Paul.
