What Not to Do When Fleeing From the Police
Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - The services of Sherlock Holmes were not required early this morning as Rochester Police worked to identify a man who fled in a car after officers responded to a disturbance. Interim Police Chief John Sherwin says the man eventually abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot after leaving his ID in the car.
The incident began around 5 am when police received a call about a drunk individual trying to start a fight outside a home in the 100 block of 8th Avenue Southeast. When officers arrived, the subject of the complaint got into a car and drove away. Sherwin says the officers followed and attempted to stop the man, but he refused to pull over, even as he was obeying the speed limit and stopping for stop signs and stop lights.
The slow speed pursuit ended after State Troopers deployed some stop sticks on 7th street near Silver Lake and the man sped away. His car, containing his ID, was found a short time later near Cooke Park. At last report, police were still looking for the man, knowing who he is and where he lives.
