James Holmes, the Aurora, Colorado shooter was handed a sentence yesterday. These kind of sentences never make any sense to me. James Holmes is the maniac who killed 12 people at a movie theater in Colorado back in 2012 and yesterday, instead of the death penalty (Which he SHOULD have received) he was sentenced to 12 life sentences (one for each victim) plus 3,318 years for the attempted murders of those he wounded.

My question is: Why do they sentence like this? There must be a reason. Why not just say "life in prison with no parole?" Why do they have to add on the other 11 life sentences AND an additional 3,318 years. Is it so as not to exclude any of the victims? Meaning, is it so the public or even the killer knows that they're getting so many years for this victim, and so many years for this victim, and so on? I guess what I'm saying is that so no victim goes unnoticed? I really don't know and I don't get it.

This happens all the time. A criminal will get "life plus 20 years." Again, why not just say "LIFE."  There's got to be a reason.

Even though he didn't get the death penalty, this a-hole gets to live out the rest of his days rotting in a prison cell. Unfortunately, it's at the cost of tax payers but what makes me feel a little better about it is that he gets to see that life goes on outside his prison. He will never touch grass again, feel rain on his face, go anywhere without supervision, etc. The fact that James Holmes is 27, unless they "Dahmer" him in prison, he'll have the next 60-70 years to think about what he did. Not that he cares, I guess.

In my opinion, if the courts are 100% sure of a death row inmate's guilt, without a single doubt, then speed up the process and harvest their organs for someone that deserves to live.
