I've lived in Rochester for 8 years now and I've never understood having this median and I think it needs to go. Am I wrong?  This whole stretch of median (from 16th Street by Cowboy Jacks to 20th Street by the new Kwik Trip) is kind of a pain in the ass. With the way the new Kwik Trip is, you either have to go back out on to 20th and wait for the light if you wanted to make a left hand turn heading to downtown or you can do like I and a few others do and drive out over the median. I mean, c'mon, it's not that high. Not your standard curb height for sure and I can easily drive over it but some cars probably can't/won't. And, is it LEGAL to drive over it?

Is it really necessary anymore? I don't know. What if I'm new to town or just passing through and I need to get gas and miss that turn? Do I then have to go down the road a bit further to do a u-turn and come back? What's even more bothersome is the fact that you can't turn directly into Cowboy Jacks if your traveling north on Broadway. Well, I shouldn't say "can't" I guess since I drive over it, but it just seems like an inconvenience. How about leveling that whole median and putting in one lane right down the middle of the road for turning? There are already turn lanes in some parts of that median so it's not like you'd have to widen it.

Or, better yet, let's make the whole damn thing one GIANT roundabout. Those seem to be pretty popular these days. ROUNDABOUTS for EVERYONE!

But seriously, if someone in the know could tell me why that median is needed, that would be great. Also, let me know if it illegal to drive over it to turn to where you want to go so I don't get a ticket for doing so.

If this were to happen, remember, you read it here first. So we'll be changing the street name to "Jeffway." You're welcome in advance.

Bringing change to Rochester...that's the "Jeffway."
