RHCP Playin’ Superbowl Half-Time Show & ‘Funky’ Monks

The Red Hot Chili Peppers have been signed on the Superbowl XLVIII Half-Time roster February 2 in New Jersey.

I have so many 'favorite' bands that it would take all day to name them all. I mentioned this the other day, that I finally got a chance to see the 'Funky Monks' documentary of the Red Hot Chili Peppers.  It's long, but I really enjoyed it, so if you are at all interested in seeing it... Click Here.  [Warning:  Explicit Language]

The album 'BloodSugarSexMagic' was the cruise down broadway with it cranked in the car during my senior year hangin' with all of your pals kinda album.  It was a constantly on repeat, I'm too lazy to change the music, yet I don't want to because its rockin' just fine as is.

There is something naturally amazing about Rick Rubin.  He has channeled something very powerful into the artists that he has worked with.  I found it fascinating to watch him work with the RHCP in the documentary and to see how the entire album that I adored for so many years came to fruition.   This is one of those albums that must remain with me if I were on a deserted island.

During a vacation to California with my sister, we were hanging out on Zuma beach and I was in my jeans and a sweatshirt.  It was November after all, but it got so warm that day I really wished I was wearing shorts.  So, we wandered over to the surf shop to get some, and also some sandals instead of my huge clobber hopper tennis shoes I was wearing.   Anthony Kiedis was in the store.

This is how the convo went down:

Me:  "Oh!  There's A Chili Pepper!"

Anthony:  ( Turns Head & Looks At Us )

My Sister: ( Gasp ! ) In a low whisper.. "Its Anthony Kiedis" at which point she whispers into my ear hoping to be discreet, "He looks smaller than I thought, I coulda swore he was more buff than that !  "

Me:  ( walks over to him, reaches out my hand to shake his hand )  "Hello!  Wow, I'm a fan, I love your music its so nice to meet you, apologies for our weirdness ... "

Anthony took the time to talk to us and for the life of me I was completely starstruck and have no idea what we talked about from that point on.   HA!   According to my sister, we were chatting a little about something... but I don't know as if she remembers either.  We left the surf shop and then my sister was like, "You're so brave, to just go up and talk to him, I totally hope he didn't hear me say he wasn't as buff as I'd thought"  ... either way, both of us were kinda in shock walking away from that shop.

The 'Chili Peppers have morphed a lot over their career.   They've done some rather odd things.   One thing is certain, there is some massive creativity and a different energy about those boys.   I am sure people who attend and watch the Superbowl are going to be entertained.
