It's a day I like to celebrate EVERY time I crack a beer but today, it's official. Today is National Beer Day. It was on this day, April 7th 1933, that Franklin D. Roosevelt signed into law (Actually, it was March 22nd but the bill didn't go into effect until April 7th) The Cullen-Harrison Act, that allowed people to buy, sell and drink beer again, legally. Yeah. At one point in our history, you could not drink beer legally. Man, that would suck. It wouldn't stop me from drinking it but it would still suck.

It was on that first day, April 7th, that the American public went through 1.5 million barrels of beer to celebrate. That may not seem like a lot but back in 1933, the population of the U.S. was only 125.6 million people. The 1.5 million barrels of beer with today's population, 319 million, would be a "drop in the bucket" so to speak.

I've been thinking of brewing my own beer at home but I think it gets a little spendy. So, I guess I'll just celebrate with a beer at the bar. Maybe we'll see you out there.

Happy National Beer Day and by the way, yesterday was "New Beers Eve." I think they dropped the ball though. They should have called it "Brew Years Eve." Either way, CHEERS!

To celebrate, I've pulled out a little video I put together last fall as an ode to beer. Hope you enjoy it!
