Former Viking Sentenced For Ponzi Scheme
According to the Start Tribune, former Minnesota Viking Stu Voigt has been sentenced for his part in a ponzi scheme involving his business partner, businessman Jeffrey Gardner. He played for the Vikings from 1970-1980.
The judged sentenced the 68-year-old "[...]to six months in prison and ordered to pay a $100,000 fine for his role in a multimillion-dollar fraud scheme, a sentence that was far less than what government prosecutors sought." However, allegedly, Voigt doesn't really remember the scheme at all. His chronic headaches and "diminished memory" are the result of post-concussive syndrome.
Originally, prosecutors were seeking 46 months in prison. Voigt reports to prison on November 28th. Voigt called this incident “darkest day in my life,” and then added: “I have been hit hard my whole life, but this is by far the worst.”
