Even More Road Construction on Highway 52 Starts Today
If you're driving from Rochester to the Twin Cities on Highway 52, get used to seeing more orange construction barrels on the road starting today.
MnDOT released a statement saying that, in addition to the road resurfacing project that's been happening the northbound lanes between Rochester and Cannon Falls, the Highway 58 bridge replacement in Zumbrota, and the bridge replacement over the Little Cannon River just north of Cannon Falls, there will be even MORE construction along that busy stretch of highway.
Starting July 10, crews will be installing several RCI's-- that's MnDOT speak for 'reduced conflict intersections'-- at eight intersections on Highway 52 between Coates and Cannon Falls. They'll also be adding cable median barriers along stretches of the highway as well.
These new RCI's are safer than the traditional intersections because they limit the way traffic can enter Highway 52 from side streets. (You basically have to head the opposite direction and then make a U-turn to get going other way). There's already an RCI installed along Highway 52 at County Road 66 in Vermillion. You can get more info on these new RCI's HERE).
