CONCERT REVIEW: Scott Weiland Tore It Up at the Gramercy Theatre Thanksgiving Eve – NYC

On Thanksgiving Eve The Wildabouts stopped at the Gramercy Theatre - NYC for what proved to be a stellar show full of fan favorites.

This is a review culled from the Pancakes & Whiskey Blog, penned by Shayne Hanley. Based on what this blogger wrote, I would echo the same sentiments based on the show I witnessed just 2 weeks ago at the legendary Surf Ballroom in Clear Lake, IA. The setlist from the two shows was almost identical, and equally "rock'in"!. With Scott Weiland & The Wildabouts coming to The Wicked Moose this coming Fri nite Dec 4th, I would say here is your chance to witness one of true ICONS on 90's rock. Most of you know him from Stone Temple Pilots; others maybe, found him later on during the Velvet Revolver years. However you were introduced,
one thing was always clear, all eyes were on him with his wicked vocal range and stage presence. While Stone Temple Pilots are still looking to
replace their frontman, and have failed miserably each time doing so (and quite honestly, never will be able to replace him), Scott Weiland drives
forward with his new band The Wildabouts.

On Thanksgiving Eve The Wildabouts stopped at the Gramercy Theatre for what proved to be a stellar show full of fan favorites. Not fucking around, the group took to the fog-filled stage and immediately blasted into the megaphone heavy “Crackerman.” As Scott slinked around with a gleam in his eyes, his band raged with a noticeable confidence and bravado while jamming to hits like “Meatplow” and “Vaseline,” which in turn had the crowd fired up and moshing.

It was refreshing to see yet another musician tell the crowd to “put your phones down, please see it with your own eyes,” as Scott reminded everyone mid-show. Those who didn’t put them down received some well deserved sneers from him as he glided and snaked his way across the front of the stage. The hits would continue with a magnificent version of “The Big Empty” and a fast paced “Dead And Bloated,” that had the fans jumping around like it was 1996 all over again.

The highlight of the show wasn’t an STP or Velvet Revolver mega-hit, but the first song The Wildabouts had recorded a few years back called, “Circles.” With the lights down low the band was seated for an emotional song dedicated to Scott’s best friend and original Wildabouts guitarist, Jeremy Brown, who passed away on March 31st at the way-too-young age of 34.

Someone screamed “Bring It Scott!” before the last song and the smiling lead singer responded with “Oh we’re gonna fucking bring it alright” and ripped into a flawless version of the STP hit “Unglued.” The night would end with massive feedback as Weiland walked off smoke filled stage, knowing he just gave us a great show.
