I know I've only been in Rochester for a little over a year, but damn it's good to see us thriving! In my last year or so in Rochester, I've gotten to know a lot of those apart of its music scene. I've heard your complaints, and I've celebrated your success. The loss of the Wicked Moose might've been a blow, but despite that, this scene really is thriving.

I think that's happening for a few reasons.

We have a variety of music represented.

I'm sorry, but to me - numerous heavy metal groups, country acts, Christian groups, a jazz band, a funk band and the ability to celebrate those who play everything in between tells me that Rochester is a solid creative place.

    We create our own venues.

Foster Fest, anyone? And that's just one example! How amazing is it that we're starting to plan our own shows and make our own noise?

I know a lot of you are taking full advantage at numerous open mic nights in the area too.

    We're attracting amazing shows.

Say what you want about Mayo Civic Center, but it has attracted some awesome shows lately!

How many of you were at the In This Moment show this summer? Are you ready for Halestorm on Tuesday?

    We're our own support system.

I can't tell you how many times I've seen bands, and their mutual friends, load up or tear down for/with each other during their sets.

I know we're exchanging creative ideas too.

Rochester musicians have truly built a solid support system within themselves.
