Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - A Rochester man who was assaulted in the downtown Wednesday ended up at the St Marys Hospital ER.

The 31-year-old man says he was on his bicycle near St. John’s church around 7:30 AM when a car pulled up. Witnesses say there was a verbal exchange between the man and the occupants of the car. The witnesses told police they saw a person get out of the car and push the man off his bike.

The man’s face struck the sidewalk and he suffered what an ER doctor said was a “complicated laceration” to his upper lip that required several stitches. He also lost an unknown number of teeth.

The victim told police he did not know the person who assaulted him. He said the occupants of the car had accused him of stealing something.

A witness was able to get the license plate number of the car and officers located the person suspected of assaulting the victim. The 16-year-old was found at the school district’s Phoenix Academy and he was arrested on a felony assault charge.
