Red Wing, MN (KROC-AM News) - A 20-year-old Red Wing man has been sentenced to three years in prison for shooting a Rochester man.

John Roberts recently entered a guilty plea to a second-degree assault charge stemming from the shooting last year. He pleaded guilty in early October just as jury selection was scheduled to begin for his trial on multiple counts of attempted murder and felony assault.

Roberts was accused of firing a gun out of a window of a Red Wing residence in the early morning hours of May 21, 2019. One of the bullets struck a 19-year-old Rochester man in the neck. He was hit while he was sitting in the backseat of a car parked outside the residence and was transported to St. Mary's hospital to be treated for the non-life-threatening gunshot wound.
