The latest health rankings for 2018 are out, and Minnesota faired well once again, ranking inside the Top 10 in the nation. Our neighbors here in the Midwest, on the other hand, did not.

Minnesota was ranked 7th, according to America' Heath Rankings, and our neighbors in Wisconsin came in at 23rd, Iowa at 18, South Dakota at 25 and North Dakota was close at 13.

Historically, Minnesota has always been a pretty healthy state, actually coming in at #1 in the rankings in 1992, 2000, 2001, and 2003-2006. Since then, Minnesota has taken a little bit of a dip.

The report says that Minnesotans have challenges with low immunization coverage among children, a high prevalence of excessive drinking (it snows a lot, what do you expect?) and a high incidence of pertussis.

Overall, Minnesotans are rank so high because they have a low cardiovascular death rate, a low percentage of uninsured population and a low prevalence of frequent mental distress.

The overall rankings have Hawaii at number 1, followed by Massachusetts, Connecticut,  Vermont, and Utah.
