Like beauty, safety can be in the eye of the beholder. What's considered safe to some, may not be so safe to others. The team at Safewise used specific criteria to determine the 100 safest cities in America.

In addition to four Minnesota cities making the top-100 safest cities for 2024, one made the top-ten.

Safewise used FBI crime report statistics and population data. The FBI data is from 2022 (the most recent year for which complete data was available). Their rankings were based solely on per capita crime data; no other factors were included.

So once again, one person's 'safe' is another person's 'dangerous.'

Safewise 2024 Safest Cities List

  1. Jackson Township, New Jersey
  2. Johns Creek, Georgia
  3. Wylie, Texas
  4. West Bloomfield Township, Michigan
  5. Newton, Massachusetts
  6. Rochester Hills, Michigan
  7. Flower Mound, Texas
  8. Lakeville, Minnesota
  9. Lakewood Township, New Jersey
  10. New Rochelle, New York

The other three Minnesota cities that cracked the top-100 safest cities include Plymouth at #57, Eden Prairie at #71, and Woodbury at #99.

Iowa and Wisconsin also made appearances on the 2024 safest cities list.

Illinois had the most 'safest' cities with ten on the 2024 list. Four states had nine cities on the list; California, Texas, Michigan, and New Jersey.

In a recent report by U.S. News & World report, Minnesota was ranked as the 23rd safest state in the country. New Hampshire was the safest and New Mexico was the least safe. Iowa came in at 10th and Wisconsin at 12th.
