Just Revealed: The Most Popular Halloween Candy in Minnesota

If you're wondering what candy to buy that most trick-or-treaters will love, we now know which candy is the most popular here in Minnesota this year.

Around this time of year, you can find tons of different surveys about the North Star State and Halloween. Like, The Most Popular Halloween Costume in Minnesota. Or Minnesota's Favorite Scary Halloween Movie.

Or, How Many Minnesotans Will Hide In Their House With The Lights Out And Not Hand Out Candy This Halloween. (Okay, I made that one up.) Most of these surveys are just taken from some lame online survey or which phrase was Googled the most.

But this new survey about the favorite Halloween candy in each state is actually based on some solid figures. It was compiled by CandyStore.com, a candy retailer that's been shipping some of the most popular candy out there for the past 17 years.

And we will buy a lot of candy again this year. The National Retail Federation says that Halloween candy spending should hit a whopping $3.5 billion across the country this year. That's a big figure, of course, though it is down slightly from last year.

So which candy is the best? To find out our favorites, CandyStore.com looked at the actual sales figures for each type of candy and came up with the top sellers in each state. So which candy topped the list and is most popular here in the Land of 10,000 Lakes? Here are the results according to CandyStore.com:

The Most Popular Candy in Minnesota for Halloween 2024 

1. Hot Tamales (with 185,509 pounds sold)
2. Tootsie Pops (with 178,286 pounds sold)
3. Skittles (with 153,176 pounds sold)

The numbers don't lie, I guess, but I'm not sure I completely agree that Hot Tamales are the most popular Halloween candy here in the North Star State. (When is the last time you actually bought Hot Tamales?!?) I'd tend to agree more with the national numbers which shows that M&M's are actually the most popular Halloween Candy this year.

In fact, CandyStore.com says that classic candy actually knocked Reese's Cups out of first place to become the top Halloween candy in the U.S. for the first time ever this year. Reese's took second place, followed by Sour Patch Kids, Skittles and Starburst to round out the top five.
