Minnesota Included in New Auto Recall – Is Your Vehicle Affected?
A new recall of nearly half a million Honda automobiles across the U.S. and Canada, including here in Minnesota, has just been announced. Here's how to know if your vehicle is affected.
Anytime a recall involves cars, my ears perk up. And if there's a Honda that you drive parked in your garage, driveway or in front of your house here in the Land of 10,000 Lakes, you might want to perk yours up too.
According to Consumer Reports, Honda announced late Wednesday it was recalling a total of 448,613 vehicles in Minnesota and across the United States because of a potential problem with the seat belt button.
Honda's recall notice explained more about the potential problem that caused the recall:
"The seat belt buckle channel for the driver and front passenger seat belts were manufactured out of specification, causing interference between the buckle channel and the release button. With continuous use, the buckle channel surface coating may deteriorate over time, and the release button may shrink against the channel at low temperatures, increasing friction. This can result in issues with the seat belt buckle latching"
The recall is affecting some of Honda's most popular models, from model year 2017 through 2020. Here's a list of specific vehicles that are included in the recall:

- 2017-2020 Honda CR-V
- 2018-2019 Honda Accord
- 2018-2019 Honda Accord Hybrid
- 2018-2020 Honda Odyssey
- 2019-2020 Acura RDX
- 2019 Honda Insight

The recall notice said Honda had received over 300 warranty claims related to the issue, but said it was not aware of any injuries or deaths. Here's what you should do if you have a vehicle included in the recall, per Honda's report:
Registered owners of all affected vehicles will be contacted by mail and asked to take their vehicle to an authorized Honda dealer. The dealer will replace the driver and passenger front seat belt buckle release buttons. If necessary, the dealer will perform a buckle assembly replacement based on inspection results.
