Before we get to that, though, let's talk about why Oktoberfest is actually celebrated in September.
Why is Oktoberfest Celebrated in September?
This confuses people all the time. I mean, it IS called Oktoberfest, not Septemberfest. But here's a brief history of the festivities!
In 1810, the prince of Bolvaria, Prince Ludwig, married Princess Therese von Sachsen-Hildburghausen in Munich, Germany. This wedding was a big deal and the festivities began on October 12th, 1810, and lasted until October 17th.
Price Ludwig and Princess Therese thought the party was so amazing that they wanted to do it again next year. And so they did. And the next year. And the next year.
For a while, they continued doing the celebration in October. Eventually, the decision was made to move it to September and have the festivities end at the beginning of October because the weather was better. Seriously, that's why.
The Best Oktoberfest Beers to Celebrate
So if you'd like to participate in this year's celebration of Oktoberfest with a beer, there are tons to choose from because it seems like every brewery has decided to try their hand at it. No complaints here, I think Oktoberfest beers are delicious!
