Just a few moments ago, as I was writing this, it went from a gorgeous, sunny sky to a torrential downpour.  It can be fun to splash around in puddles every once in awhile, but what if you don't have a place to shelter during a rainstorm, to dry off, or a change of clothes that aren't soaking wet?  When our temperature drops to below zero and we are all warned to not expose our skin too long - where do you go to stay safe if you don't have a home?

The Landing MN is that place for many individuals in our community who need a soft place to land during the day.  And YOU can help make it possible for more in our community to feel loved, have a place where they can receive medical care, take a shower, and stay safe out of the elements.

How Many People Are Experiencing Homelessness in Minnesota?

2024 was an award-winning year in the state of Minnesota - but this isn't an award that Minnesota is putting on a banner and flying high on I-35.

9,182 persons were counted overall, a 9.4% increase from the previous year.  More persons experiencing sheltered and unsheltered homelessness were counted in the 2024 Point-in-Tim Count in Minnesota than any other year. - Minnesota Interagency Council on Homelessness

Rochester has one of the most amazing medical facilities in the world, but we also have many individuals in our town who do not have a place that they can call home.  They've been told they can't sleep outside in tents.  They've been spit on by strangers.  Human beings aren't even allowed to sleep in their cars in the city of Rochester if a shelter bed is available.  More than likely, though, due to the number of people in our community who are experiencing homelessness, those beds are already full.

The Landing MN opened its day center at 426 3rd Ave. SE in Rochester a few years ago with the goal of being a soft place to land for anyone in our community who needs it.  They are open 364 days a year and only close for one day during the year...and it is only to do maintenance on the building.  All holidays, all severe weather days, all perfect Minnesota weather days...they will have their door open to help those who need a shower, a warm meal, place to wash their clothes, get medical help, talk with someone about resources available in our community, and so much more.

Today, you can show your support for this cause by joining The Landing MN for its fifth annual gala.

Join us for an unforgettable evening of community, celebration, and impact—all in support of our neighbors experiencing homelessness. This is one of our biggest nights of the year, filled with hope-filled stories, meaningful connection, and opportunities to advance The Landing MN’s mission.

One of the saddest stories to read is when one our favorite restaurants announces that they have closed for good. Unfortunately, it seems like this is news we are hearing more and more of in this economy.

We asked locals in Rochester, Minnesota what favorite spot would be heartbreaking to hear that they had closed for good - here are the top answers.
