Now that parts of Minnesota have experienced their first snowfall of the season, it's time to think about what we need to have on hand to battle Old Man Winter.

Mother Nature has lulled us into a false sense of security this autumn, with temperatures in the 70s and 80s. However, today is November first, and the ten-day forecast has nothing but 40s and 50s for daily highs.

When it comes to being prepared for winter, its not just about jumper cables and snow tires. We all need some comfort and pampering for the long, cold season ahead too. Things like good slippers and an electric blanket make for a cozy touch.

Top 20 Winter Gear Must-Haves You Need Now

Honorable mention on this year's list of top winter gear must have items include a good hat, scarf, thermal socks, a good neighbor (that might clear your driveway sometimes), a travel survival kit for your vehicle, long underwear, and maybe a little peppermint schnapps for that hot chocolate mentioned above.

Some suggestions for those outdoor winter activities to get out and enjoy include snowmobiling, cross-country skiing, ice fishing, snowshoeing, skating, sledding, downhill skiing and snowboarding, hiking, running, tubing, and dog sledding (its a blast if you've never tried it). Just some ideas.

If you just can't stomach the thought of getting outside in the cold, maybe its time to start exploring some new indoor hobbies for the winter (or dig in deep to ones you already love).

Stay warm. Have fun. Happy winter!
