Tornadoes, Damaging Winds & Large Hail Predicted for Southeast Minnesota Tuesday
Portions of Mower, Fillmore and Houston Counties, along with a large swath of communities in northeast Iowa and Southwest Wisconsin are in a level four risk of severe weather Tuesday, according to the Storm Prediction Center.
The rest of southeast Minnesota, including the Rochester area is in a level three severe weather risk. Officials say the threat for tornadoes in areas south of Interstate 90 is 20 times higher than normal for a day in Mid May.
Damaging winds and tornadoes are the main threats of the possible severe weather system, the National Weather Service says.
Large hail is also likely and localized flooding is possible for communities in the level four risk area. Forecasters say the timing window for the potential severe weather is between 3 p.m. and 9 p.m.
So far no watches or warnings have been issued. Officials are asking the community to stay weather aware throughout the day, take shelter when storms arrive and to have multiple ways to receive weather alerts and warnings.
