One of the suspects was taken to jail. The ordeal unfolded on Wednesday.
A news release issued by the Albert Lea Police Department says an officer took a report around 3:40 p.m. regarding a car that had been stolen on Wednesday morning.

While the officer took the stolen vehicle report, an off-duty Freeborn County Sheriff’s Deputy informed dispatch of a reckless driver in the area of Interstate 90 and Interstate 35.
Authorities learned the vehicle involved in the reckless driving complaint was the stolen car.

Officers then found the car in the area of Garfield Ave. and East Main St. in Albert Lea. Police attempted to box in the car but it fled, authorities say.
Law enforcement pursued the car for about a mile but backed off due public safety concerns, the news release says.
Law enforcement continued tracking the car until it stopped in the area of East Main Street and 777th Ave., which is near I-35. Officers captured the occupants after they got out of the car and tried to run away, authorities say.
Police identified the driver of the stolen car as 18-year-old Richard Clifford Tumberg of Perham, MN.
He was arrested on suspicion of receiving stolen property, fleeing a peace officer in a motor vehicle and fleeing a peace officer on foot, the news release says.
Albert Lea police say Tumberg was identified as the occupant of a different vehicle that was reported stolen and pursued by officers last week. Police are investigating that case to determine if charges are warranted.
The two other occupants of the stolen car, described as juveniles, were turned over to their parents. Charges against the minors are pending further investigation, the news release says.
