Groundbreaking Held for $42M Graham Park Exhibition Center
Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - A groundbreaking ceremony was held today at Graham Park in Rochester for a major new public facility.
Members of the Olmsted County Board of Commissioners, the County Fair Board, University of Minnesota Extension, local legislators, and others participated in the event to mark the beginning of construction on a $42 million exhibition center. Plans call for an 80,000-square-foot building that will feature a 125-by-250-foot main show arena with seating for 1,500 spectators, along with a warm-up arena, space for 250 portable stalls, and "modern accommodations for visitors, exhibitors, and animals."
“This moment is the culmination of years of planning, listening, and reimagining what’s possible at Graham Park,” said Olmsted County Board Chair Mark Thein. “We’re not just building a structure—we’re building opportunity. This project will expand economic activity, create more inclusive community spaces, and honor Graham Park’s century-long legacy.”
The start of construction follows many years of planning, including a successful bid for $8 million in state funding two years ago. The County Board recently approved three contracts for constructing the new exhibition center, which will be located just west of the existing Graham Arenas.
County officials say the new facility was designed to host a wide range of events and activities, including trade and livestock shows. It’s anticipated that it will be ready for use in early 2027.
