Rochester Man Skips Sentencing in Child Sex Abuse Case
Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - Local authorities are on the lookout for a Rochester man convicted of child sexual assault who failed to show up for his sentencing hearing this week.
Back in April, a jury was being selected for the trial of 40-year-old Ricardo Joavanny Garcia when he entered into a last-minute plea agreement. He had been facing three counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct and two counts of second-degree criminal sexual conduct when he pleaded guilty to one of the second-degree charges.

According to the criminal complaint, Garcia was accused of sexually assaulting a juvenile girl on multiple occasions. The charges were based on an investigation conducted by Rochester police after the teenage girl disclosed the abuse to her therapist in May 2022.
The complaint states that the victim told investigators she had been sexually assaulted by Garcia over several years. She reported that the last incident occurred in March or April of 2022.

Under the terms of his plea deal, prosecutors and Garcia agreed to a 90-month prison sentence.
Court filings indicate a warrant for his arrest was issued late last month after he failed to cooperate with a court-ordered presentence investigation.
