Police Fatally Shoot Man at Minnesota Homeless Shelter
Crookston, MN (KROC-AM News) - The Crookston Police Department has issued a statement concerning a fatal officer-involved shooting in the northwestern Minnesota community.
Officials say that occurred after Crookston Police officers were dispatched around 11:46 Sunday night to a fight in progress at a homeless shelter. The responding officers found a man inside the shelter being combative toward officers and refusing to follow their verbal commands.
The statement says "less lethal" means were used before one of the officers involved in the incident fired their handgun and shot the man. Despite life-saving efforts performed by the officers and first-responders, the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
The names of the man who was killed and the officer who shot him have not been released.
The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension has sent a team of agents to investigate the incident. The Polk County Sheriff's Office, the Minnesota State Patrol, East Grand Forks Police Department, and Crookston Area Ambulance assisted Crookston Police at the scene.

It was the second deadly officer-involved shooting in Crookston this year. On May 16th, Crookston officers opened fire and killed a man who was advancing at them with a hatchet. The incident remains under investigation.
