Brainerd, MN (KROC-AM News)- The man who triggered an amber alert in Minnesota Friday morning is also the suspect in a fatal shooting

Authorities issued the statewide Amber Alert around 6:30 a.m. It was canceled about two hours later. 

35-year-old Chad Aanerud was reported to have abducted a pregnant mother and her four children from a rural Brainerd Lakes area residence at gunpoint around 1:50 a.m.

Aanerud and the five abduction victims, four of which were ages 14, 11, seven and three, were located by law enforcement in Morrison County around 7:15 a.m. 

The mother and children were found inside of the vehicle unharmed and Aanerud was taken into custody, according to the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension.

A news release issued by the Crow Wing County Sheriff’s Office says deputies were dispatched to the residence of the abduction, a home in the 15000 block of Loerch Rd., on the report of a shooting

Upon arrival, which was after the abduction had occurred, deputies found a man who had died from an apparent fatal gunshot wound. He has been identified as 62-year-old Lyle Maske of Brainerd

Crow Wing County authorities say Aanerud is the suspect in the fatal shooting. 

Friday morning’s Amber Alert also indicated that Aanerud, who was dating the abducted mother, had fired a gunshot from a rifle into the ceiling of the home where the fatal shooting and abduction had taken place. 

Officials say the homicide investigation remains active and ongoing.
